Bishop Shanahan National School

Mission Statement and Ethos

Bishop Shanahan National School is a Catholic co-educational school in the parish of St Jude the Apostle, Willington, catering for children from Junior Infants to Second Class. Since its opening, the school has endeavoured to create a warm, secure environment for all the children. This has been achieved through the efforts of the teaching staff as well as the development of appropriate links between home, school and community. The school is under the patronage of the Catholic Archbishop of Dublin.

While Bishop Shanahan N.S. is a school with a Catholic ethos, it also has due recognition for all other religions. It promotes Christian values, sensitivity to others, compassion for the weak and a sense of duty to society.

Bishop Shanahan N.S. aims, in conjunction with parents, to help children

  • Achieve a sense of self-worth
  • Achieve cognitive and emotional development
  • Achieve personal fulfilment
  • Acquire self-confidence
  • Acquire social and athletic skills
  • Acquire an ability to further educate themselves
  • Acquire understanding of our national and international heritage

Bishop Shanahan N.S. strives to promote, both individually and collectively, the professional and personal development of teachers through staff development programmes.

Bishop Shanahan N.S. encourages the involvement of parents through home/school contacts and through their involvement in the Bishop Shanahan & Bishop Galvin Parents’ Association.
